The portable platform-mounted auger sampling system allows more versatility in sampling. The platform can be trailer-mounted and transported to the sampling location, or built in place. It can sample trucks, railcars and barges. The auger is moved over the unit to be sampled using an articulating crane. Using a processor-based control system, designed by James A. Redding Company, it can be a completely automated sampling operation, with the exception of the crane operator.
How it works:
The crane operator selects the designated supplier container for the final sample, using a mini-control panel in the crane cab. An optional card reader system is also available for automatic selection of the designated supplier container.
The operator then moves the auger to that position and samples. This primary sample is crushed, re-sampled and the final sample is deposited in the assigned sample container. Sample rejects can be handled in a variety of ways. The complete sampling process varies and depends on the material being sampled and the type size of the auger.
